Film star Alon Abutbul, 60, dies suddenly after a swim

Born into an Egyptian-Algerian Mizrahi family near Haifa, Alon Abutbul was a popular star of TV and cinema in Israel. He was found dead on a beach in northern Israel, presumably after collapsing following a swim, The Times of Israel reports:

Israeli actor Alon Abutbul died on Tuesday, bringing a sudden end to a prolific and storied career in both Israeli and international film, stage and television.

Abutbul’s lifeless body was found on the Habonim Beach in northern Israel. Medics called to the scene were unable to revive him, according to the Magen David Adom rescue service.

MDA said Abutbul, 60, apparently collapsed after coming out of the water.

The actor was a popular mainstay of the Israeli film and television industry for more than four decades, winning several major awards.
